Put simply, it is designing an interaction between people, devices and information. Designing a product which a user can engage with. Where they have influence over the information presented and there is a clear action/reaction play between the technology and the user. In interaction design it is not just the what, why and who that is considered, the how and when play equally vital roles.
- what- are you designing (look/type/information)
- why- you are designing it (purpose/need)
- who- is this design for (audience/client)
- how- the user will interact with the information (function/navigation/UI/action)
- when- is it appropriate for interaction to take place and what is its duration (time)
An interactive is anything that a person can control, or effect. Where communication or interaction occurs and the viewer becomes a user. This interaction can be as basic as hitting the back and forward arrows.
